March Orchard Report: A Bloom 🌸 Worth Believing In

March is a magical month in the orchard—the moment when all our trees stretch toward the sky and the entire farm starts to hum with the promise of cherries. This year, full bloom in our Coral Champagne and Bing blocks arrived around March 15th, with our Lapins following close behind on the 21st. Each variety greeting spring in its own rhythm.

While the blooms didn’t look quite as full as in years past, we’re still filled with hope. We’re hearing from fellow farmers and our agronomist that last summer’s intense heat—both the high temps and the number of hot days—likely played a role. But as always, these trees are resilient. Just like the people who tend to them.

As bloom and pollination were underway, a cold front surprised us. We watched as some blossoms moved swiftly through their cycle—pollinated and already shedding petals—while others were just waking up. This staggered bloom means we may see a bit of variation in how the fruit ripens. While that’s not the easiest path for harvesting, we’re committed to doing whatever it takes to bring you the freshest, juiciest cherries possible.

The good news? Plenty of healthy buds were pollinated during just the right window. And if there's one thing we’ve learned over the years, it’s that cherries have a way of surprising us—in the best possible ways.

Right now, we’re in that vital stage between bloom and petal fall. We’re feeding the trees exactly what they need to develop rich flavor, strong fruit, and vibrant color. That includes a custom mix of humic acid, seaweed extract, boron, phosphate, molybdenum, zinc, calcium, magnesium, and iron. Every nutrient is chosen with care to support the quality you’ve come to know and love.

Growing cherries is never predictable. But it’s always beautiful.

As we walk this journey into harvest, we’re so grateful to share it with you. With every update, we hope you feel just a little more connected to the cherries that arrive at your doorstep. Because when you choose Blooms Fresh Cherries, you’re not just getting fruit—you’re getting a piece of the story, season after season.
